The Bras are Back!
Talk about some hot weather we're facing here in Houston! We've got THE
arts and crafts project of the year to give you something fun and
creative to do while indoors - BRA ART. If you've been a Charity Chicks
member for a while, this should sound familiar! And we brought it back
so those of you who were involved last year could step it up even more,
and those that missed out have NO EXCUSES. Aside from us staying busy
working on everything related to BRAtober and BRA ART, our newsletter
and web designer April Guzik is working on a Houston Dynamo/Charity
Chicks t-shirt that will be sold to help raise money for some great
organizations!
We strive to make Houston a little more charitable everyday,
but we need your help! We need to know about more charity and volunteer
events in Houston. If the event is more than 2 weeks away, email us a link to online details so we can add it to our event calendar.
We want to know about events as far away as December so hit us up. One
of our most visited pages on our site is our Resources Page, but it
needs to be updated with some of the great groups here locally. If you
know of a charity or volunteer group that is not listed here please email us the name of the group and their website.
Stay tuned...new website unveiling soon courtesy of super-woman chick
April Guzik! This is the perfect time for guys (peeps) to sign up
because we're creating a manly charity peeps page JUST FOR YOU. Invite
your husbands, boyfriends, brothers, dads, co-workers and everyone else
to sign up for the newsletter!
One last thing, please pray for Baby Aiden.
Stay cool and creative Chicks and Peeps,

August 7 - Volunteer with Christian Community Service Center's
Back to School Program
Since 1986, Christian Community Service Center has helped
disadvantaged children increase their probability of academic success
through the Back to School program. This year, 6,000 children will
receive new grade-appropriate school supplies and a $30 voucher
for new uniforms and shoes.
This volunteer-driven effort allows students to begin the school
year in well-prepared fashion and with added confidence - just
like their peers! We'll be helping with distribution of the school
supplies to students. |

Helpful Holiday Guide
Last year over the holidays, several of our members asked us if we knew
of local businesses that were donating a percentage of holiday sales to
charity. And that got us thinking, wouldn't it be great if we could
help people shop and give to charity at the same time! We are
approaching a few unique businesses in the area (focusing on retail,
restaurants and spas) to ask if they'd like to be a part of our first
ever Helpful Holiday Shopping Guide!
If you are a business decision maker, or you know one who may be
interested, check out all of the details. But hurry! The deadline for
submissions is October 1!

November 10 - Texas Conference for Women
Charity Chicks Houston is proud to be a supporting organization for the
Texas Conference for Women. This isn't a charity event, but we're all
about helping women to connect with each other and grow together - and
we think this is a great forum for that!
Keynote speakers include Leigh Anne Tuohy (the inspiration behind
the movie "The Blind Side"), Glenda Hatchett (a.k.a. Judge
Hatchett from her TV show) and Dr. Jennifer Arnold (from the TLC
show "The Little Couple").
As a Charity Chick, you can get a discount to attend the conference. Register here and enter TXTSU2 in the ‘Promotional Code’ box to receive the special reduced rate of $100 per person.
